All Rise for Aaron Judge: Leading Team USA to Glory at the 2026 WBC

By: Cristopher Avello

When Aaron Judge received the call from Team USA manager Mark DeRosa asking him to lead the squad in the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC), it was a moment of destiny. Since then, no one has been more determined to capture the coveted WBC title than the 2026 MLB The Show cover athlete. With every step he takes, Judge is not just playing for personal success but for the pride of representing his country on the world stage. Team Brazil learned the hard way, when he launched a two-run homer in the second inning of the opening round of pool play.

DeRosa said, “He is special, a leader of men, process oriented, wants things done in a uniform way, he has a lot of respect for the other guys in the room, but certainly it revolves around him.”

“It's been great,” Judge said, speaking about the chants from USA fans. “It was an unreal atmosphere; I am looking forward to more moments like that. We have a squad that's excited, we're gelling early which has been great, time to take care of business.”

Judge’s remarkable rise in Major League Baseball speaks for itself. Over the past five seasons, he has become one of the game’s premier players, collecting three MVP awards and continually surpassing expectations. His numbers are staggering: 50 home runs, 112 RBIs, and a .304 batting average, all paired with a 1.070 OPS. These stats alone would solidify his place in baseball history, but it’s his consistent dominance on the field that has made Judge a household name.

“For me it starts on deck, when I’m on deck, I sort of read the pitchers technique; also, visualize the pitches on how my swing is going to go,” Judge said. “But one of the coolest things is when I talked to Harper, and he said, own the moment, don’t let the moment own you.”

One of the most iconic moments of Judge’s career came during the 2017 MLB All-Star Game in Miami, where his raw power was on full display during the Home Run Derby. Judge averaged an eye-popping 435 feet per home run, including one towering shot that traveled 513 feet, smashing against the glass beyond the left-field concourse. This moment captivated fans across the world, and now, as he prepares to lead Team USA in Houston for the WBC, excitement is at an all-time high.

What many people may not know is that Judge’s athletic prowess didn’t begin in a baseball diamond. Raised in Linden, California, Judge excelled in multiple sports in high school. In football, he set school records with 969 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns during his senior season, earning attention from top-tier universities such as Stanford, Notre Dame, and UCLA. As a basketball player, Judge averaged over 18 points per game, showcasing his all-around athleticism and competitive spirit.

Judge’s blend of power, precision, and leadership is what makes him the perfect choice to captain Team USA in the 2026 WBC. As fans eagerly await the upcoming tournament, there’s no doubt that Judge’s quest for a World Baseball Classic championship will be one of the most exciting storylines in the sport today. When it comes to representing the red, white, and blue, Aaron Judge is ready to lead the charge.
